In a film where the camera and script are equally out of focus, Zellweger and her prom-bound friends are pursued by a berserk McConaughey and Leatherface, now dressed as a woman and screaming uncontrollably. Image Credit: ©New Line Cinema/Courtesy Everett Collectionįorever known as “the one with Renée Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey in it,” “The Next Generation” is an amateurish disaster buoyed only by a “seeing is believing” level of outrageousness. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" (1995).Despite an impassioned performance from Stephen Dorff as a Texas Ranger hell-bent on revenge and some gnarly gore, “Leatherface” plays like a fan fiction that isn’t as entertaining as the series’ most out-there work.

Several patients at a mental institution hit the road in a script that feels like a smeared photocopy of 2005’s influential Rob Zombie movie “The Devil’s Rejects.” There are very few hints that this is a “TCM” chapter until the last 10 minutes, which starts a wild scramble to connect the rest of the movie to the overall saga. For all associated with it, It's no w time to get up, wipe your butt, and put this one where it belongs. What's that I hear.? FLLLUUUUSSSSHHHH!!!!! BYE-BYE "Next Generation".Image Credit: ©Lions Gate/courtesy Everett Collecti / Everett CollectionĪlthough it’s a more stylish chapter than several of the low-budget titles above, this prequel to the original film is dreary and out-of-step with the rest of the franchise. To put it mildly. This Movie,( If you can call it that ), is an embarrassment to the Franchise, and should be forgotten. With the exception of McConaughey, the acting was that of a 1st grade school play, and this incudes Renee Zellweger's performance! I can fully understand Matthew McConaughey wanting this movie expunged from his history, But Zellweger belongs right here with the rest of the lame cast! In all fairness, if you're a gore fan, you'll probably like this movie. The script wasn't the best (nor the title, which you can't help think of Star Trek while reading.), the plot was pretty horrid and the only scenes that were worth watching had to do with flashing, yelling, screaming, leaping off and out of things and pretty much any scene with Maconahay flipping out. Regardless of how bad the acting was, Renee and Matthew really were the stars in this movie. There's a scene that I couldn't help but remind and laugh repeatedly that had to do with exiting a window. Renee Zellweger, who's much younger than I've ever personally seen in a movie, looked pretty and reminded me of Thelma from Scooby Doo. The makeup was something I enjoy looking for in movies - as far as blood, gore, etc - in this movies case, the props were actually pretty good.

There was another character who quoted historic figures, which were often amusing. The incredibly bad acting was from every other actor and actress, including the Chainsaw Murderer. I figured this movie would suck horribly from Maconahay being in it, with his "surfer" appearances and out of place accent. Nonetheless, my girlfriend came over and we started watching it. I guess I was to taken by the disbelief they would make a sequel in the first place. A girlfriend of mine made this purchase about a month ago and my first reaction was, "are you kidding me?" Once it arrived I opened the package and really looked at the cover not even realizing it was Matthew Maconahay on the cover - even though it says his name up top. You tend to think that sequels to classic movies are usually quite bad (which in most cases, they are).
